Cake Ordering

Thank you for allowing Cakes Plus to do a specialty cake for your upcoming event.  Please order as soon as possible for your event.  See below for ordering deadlines.  

Please place your order in person or via telephone, (301-490-3600).  You may request quotes via email or this web page.  But we require a verbal confirmation over the phone or in person.  

DO NOT email or fax cake orders.

Cakes that have fondant or gum paste decorations MAY require up to two weeks notice, depending on the intricacy of the design.    Please email a picture of the cake to sales@cakesplus.com to see how much time your desired cake design needs. 

Tiered cake orders require additional notice because of the construction components involved.  They can be labor intensive and often special tools and ingredients need to be ordered well in advance of construction. 

Due to the fact that we create a cake to your specific instructions we have implemented the following guide for you, to make
ordering your cake as easy and convenient as possible.

Standard Party Cakes

Monday - Thursday orders, most orders can be ready for pickup after 2pm, the following day.

Friday - Saturday orders need to be placed as soon as possible.  We reserve the right to stop (or cut off) taking orders anytime during the week based on volume.   

When ordering via telephone, please have your credit card information ready.  Full payment is required for all phone orders. 

To protect you, the credit card MUST be present when the cake is picked up.

A deposit is required for orders placed in person. 

Ordering a cake via telephone is best suited for the uncomplicated, standard cake designs i.e. Flowers or Balloons. edible images. 

Please come into the store and place your order if you would like to have a cake with a specific picture, theme, or color (swatch
required). We need to see the picture and/or theme to give you an artwork quote. (Copyright laws pending)

We require a minimum of 48 hours for any changes, postponements or, cancellations, NO EXCEPTIONS

Inclement Weather - We cannot control the weather, therefore we will have your cake ready for pickup on the day that you
requested. In the event of snow, our lot will be plowed and access to our store will not be a problem. If you need to make any
changes, cancellations, or postponements please note that we require a minimum of 48 hours notice. We will be happy to give
you freezing instructions if your party has to be postponed or cancelled, at the last minute. We DO NOT have freezer capacity to store your cake beyond the pick up date.

Wedding Cake Orders

We have wedding cake tasting every Saturday from 10AM -5PM. No appointment is necessary.

We have a large selection of wedding cake pictures (1000+) available for you to choose from. If you have a picture of a cake, bring
it in and we will see if it is something we can recreate. (Copyright laws pending)

When placing a wedding cake order, please allow one hour for our wedding cake advisors to take your order. (please note our
hours of operation)

Please bring the following information when you order your cake: Caterer information, a swatch (a small piece of fabric) is needed
for special or matching colors, location (name), full address, phone number and contact information of your reception site, the
time that your reception starts, and what is the earliest time your reception hall will be ready for delivery, a two (2) hour window is

Our wedding cake advisors are usually available to help you. Occasionally, they may not be present or have other appointments. 
Please call ahead, to make sure an advisor will be available to answer all of your questions, and/or take your order.

Bridal Checklist

Well, were not going to bore you with what to do 12-18 months prior to your wedding day. What we are going to do is to make sure
you have all of the required information you will need before you pick a Bakery to create your wedding cake.

Most of the wedding cakes we do are from customers that have been customers prior to their engagement, or whom have been
served our cake at another function.

Time line:
7-8 months prior to your event, attend bridal shows (if possible) this will give you a good idea of who the leading bakers are in
your area, sample there cakes, try to narrow your choice down to 2 or 3 bakeries.

6-7 months out call these bakeries to find out when there wedding cake tasting will be, go and sample their cake again. When you
have found the baker that you want to create your wedding cake, you will need the following information available to place your

Event date and day of the week

Caterer information:  contact person, address, and telephone numbers.  

Guest count

Shape that you want your cake to be: Round, Square, Heart, etc…
   (Some shaped cake will only serve a certain amount of guests)

Have a swatch of the colors that you want matched.

Cake topper   (wedding ornament)    some of today’s ornaments just wont go on top of a wedding cake, so don’t go over board
when picking out a topper, especially if your not purchasing it from your baker, some jewelry and gift stores sell very nice
wedding cake ornaments but make sure that it has a large footprint, and is not top heavy.

Location of your reception:
• Proper Name, full address with zip code and full contact information.
• Find out from this location what time you (or your caterer) are allowed to set up, (don’t assume) some reception halls can flip
a room in as little as a half an hour!
• Find out what time the air conditioning will be turned on!!! (Warmer days)
• Find out what the earliest time the cake table will be ready, preferably 1 ½ to 2 hours prior to the start of your reception.
